There are times when life just plain sucks. There’s no getting around it or getting away from it. But you can get through it. When the storms of life come, dance in the rain.
I’ve got a lot of things going on in my life right now that I have allowed to drag me down. A death this week in the family, health issues, financial issues, the loss of a close friend, work issues.. I had allowed all of this to drag me down so much, to the point that I even questioned why bother to care at all, to love at all, only to have hurt take over the heart, where joy once lived.
Somewhere in all of the pain, I lost sight of the big picture. I forgot how to dance in the rain.
So many think that death is final. It’s not. The body dies, not the person. The body is what holds us, holds our being, our spirit, our soul. Like the shell that holds the egg, or the glass that holds the water. The body isn’t who we are, it just holds who we are.
If we belong to Jesus, then when our body dies, He carries us home to be with Him.
James 14: 1-6
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
And then there’s money. Sure we need it to live on, but just how much do we really have to have? Most of us would be surprised by what we could live without. But then what do you do when you are faced with possibly not being able to pay your house note, or buy food next month, or go to the doctor if you are sick? Where do you turn when you don’t have anywhere to turn to? How do you cope with the uncertainity of being able to support yourself or your family?
Mathew 6:19, 20, 21
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
There will always be things in this life to arise, causing us sorrow and pain and grief, causing us to wonder if we can survive, if we can make it. But here’s the thing… if we depend on ourselves to make it through the storm, we won’t make it. If we depend on another person to help us through it by just being there for us, we won’t make it. If we depend on our job or our money or our health to make it through the storm, we won’t make it.
So what do we do? We depend on the One that can calm the storm, the One that holds the keys to it all.. we depend on God. And we can’t get around the storms, we can’t avoid them, but we can dance in the rain that God pours down on us as He washes the old away and cleans us with rain from heaven….
So the next time you are stressed, worried, feeling down, depressed, in pain and hurting, look at the storm with new eyes and a new heart. Instead of seeing a bad storm, see the rain God has brought and go dance in the rain.
